What to Expect During Your Full Fibre Broadband Installation

Making the switch to Full Fibre broadband is a fantastic move for a better online experience, and at Wildanet, we’re here to make it as easy as possible. Here’s a simple guide to what you can expect during your installation process.

Before Installation

Once you’ve placed your order, we’ll kick things off with an external survey of your property. You don’t need to be home for this, but if you’d like to be there, just let us know, and we’ll arrange a convenient time. This survey helps us confirm the best installation routes for your fibre connection.

Next, we’ll work with you to agree on a suitable installation date. A little prep on your end can help too—take a moment to think about where you'd like the fibre line to enter and where your router will go. This will help the installation run smoothly!

Installation Day

On the big day, a friendly Wildanet engineer will arrive to set everything up. Here’s how it typically goes:

Chat with the Engineer

Your engineer will discuss where to drill for the fibre cable and check the best way to connect to the external network. Sometimes, this might involve climbing a ladder to reach a telegraph pole.

External Setup

They’ll run a fibre optic cable from the nearest connection point—like a telegraph pole or underground—into a small junction box attached to your wall. This box, which is about 15cm x 13cm, links your home to our network.

Inside Installation

Next, the engineer will bring a smaller cable from the junction box inside to connect to your Optical Network Terminal (ONT). This device, around 13cm x 11cm, acts as the bridge to your router. A bit of drilling may be needed, so there might be some noise and dust, but we’ll keep it minimal.

Final Check

After everything is set up, the engineer will test your connection on your preferred device to make sure everything’s working perfectly. Feel free to ask any questions about getting the most out of your new broadband!

How Long Will It Take?

Typically, the installation takes just a couple of hours. If it looks like it will take longer, we’ll keep you informed and provide a suitable timeframe. If you’re within our coverage area, we can usually get you up and running within a few weeks of your order. If you’re outside our current network, don’t worry—we’ll keep you updated on our expansion plans!

After Installation

Once everything is complete, we’ll guide you on connecting your devices to the network. Then, you can dive into the benefits of Full Fibre broadband—think faster downloads, seamless streaming, and an awesome online experience!
