Wildanet rising star Andrew shortlisted in Cornwall Apprenticeship Awards

Cornwall broadband provider Wildanet is celebrating one of its talented apprentices - Andrew Rockey-Gunn - being shortlisted in the prestigious Cornwall Apprenticeship Awards.

Hosted by Truro and Penwith College, the annual awards - now in their ninth year - celebrate the outstanding achievements of apprentices across Cornwall.

Andrew joined Wildanet in 2023 as a Field Service Engineer Apprentice and was one of a trailblazing group of five apprentices to embark on the company’s brand-new Telecoms Field Operative Level 2 apprenticeship programme. He has thrived and has been recognised for his exceptional contributions to Wildanet’s operations, his unwavering commitment to professional development and his inspiring qualities as a team member and mentor.

Awards judges were told that since joining Wildanet, Andrew has demonstrated an outstanding work ethic and initiative and has earned a reputation as a highly valued member of the team.

Andrew’s passion for learning led him to coming up with the idea of “Fibre Friday,” a programme he developed to gain hands-on experience in fibre installations. The initiative not only boosted his skillset but also enabled him to share valuable technical knowledge with his peers.

Julie-anne Sunderland, Wildanet’s Chief People Officer, said: “Andrew’s enthusiasm, dedication and passion for technology make him a standout apprentice. He consistently goes above and beyond, whether it's supporting his peers, improving customer outcomes or supporting his colleagues and fellow apprentices. We’re thrilled to see him deservedly recognised for his hard work and contributions.”

Andrew’s achievements extend beyond his technical expertise. He has actively participated in Wildanet’s apprenticeship open days, mentored work experience students and helped promote Wildanet’s apprenticeship programme.

Andrew’s success comes as Wildanet continues to invest in nurturing the next generation of digital engineers through its Wildanet Technical Training Academy, launched in 2023. The Academy has developed a ground-breaking new apprenticeship programme with Truro and Penwith College and provides industry-leading training supporting the roll-out of high-speed broadband to thousands of people living and working in the region.

Andrew will join other shortlisted candidates at the gala final of the Cornwall Apprenticeship Awards, which takes place at the Eden Project on Friday 7th February. Wildanet is delighted to be among a host of high-profile businesses across Cornwall to be supporting the awards which are timed to coincide with National Apprenticeship Week.
